ZURICH, July 2—Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide has opened an office in Zurich, its first in Switzerland.  Thomas Hermann, formerly CEO of Wirz Public Relations, the third largest PR firm in Switzerland, has been named managing director.

Ogilvy PR/Zurich will represent clients including Michelin; medical device company Medtronic; Big Star, a Swiss-based manufacturer of blue jeans; the Children’s Hospital of Zurich; and global financial services firm, Bank Leumi. The new office may also support existing Swiss-based Ogilvy clients, including Sony and Novartis.

“Switzerland is important to our network because it is a global center for the financial services and pharmaceutical industries,” says Nick May, president of Ogilvy PR Europe. “I’m thrilled to say we’ve found the ideal entrepreneur, who has a proven track record and will bring a wealth of experience to our clients. His style will work well within the Ogilvy PR culture.”
Hermann, a Zurich native, began his career as a business journalist, and joined Credit Suisse in 1977 as head of its press office. In 1984, he became a member of the Swiss executive management for Fiat, responsible for advertising, public relations and sales promotion. In 1987, he founded and managed his own firm, Hermann Public Relations, until he joined Wirz Public Relations as CEO in 1994.
