PORTLAND, OR—Kerry Tymchuk, who served as state director for U.S. Senator Gordon Smith (R-Ore.) from 1997 until earlier this year, is leaving politics to become a corporate communications advisor at Conkling Fiskum & McCormick. Tymchuk who will become a principal at the firm and is based in the firm's Portland office, will work closely with CFM partner Pat McCormick in expanding its corporate reputation management and issues management practices.
Tymchuk served as state director for Smith for more than a decade and also had a notable career as a speechwriter and co-author of several books, such as the autobiography of Bob and Elizabeth Dole, as well as the autobiography of Columbia Sportswear's Gert Boyle.
In addition, two Oregon Governors appointed Tymchuk to high-level state commissions. Governor John Kitzhaber appointed him to the Oregon Criminal Justice Commission. With the appointment of Governor Ted Kulongoski, Kerry served from 2003-2006 as Chairman of the Oregon State Lottery Commission.
