TROY, [email protected] has hired Dan Reid, most recently with Hass/MS&L in Detroit, as vice president. Reid hasmore than 13 years of automotive communications and media relations expertise, most recently as group account supervisor with Hass MS&L, where he managed aspects of the GM Service & Parts Operations account and served as GM Racing communications manager. Prior to Hass MS&L, Reid spent six years with Campbell & Company.

MINNEAPOLI—Carmichael Lynch Spong has recently added Stephanie Herzfeld and Jillian McDowell to its media relations department. A former senior editor at Kitchen and Bath Business (K+BB) magazine, Herzfeld has been named media relations specialist in the firm’s New York office, where she lends media relations strategy and counsel to clients within the home products industry. McDowell has been named media list specialist in the firm’s Minneapolis office, where she arranges media distribution and monitors coverage for clients in the food and beverage, financial, and outdoor and leisure categories.

NEW YORK—CIFG, a financial guaranty company, is establishing separate corporate communications and investor relations departments under the direction of John Pizzarelli, head of global public finance and infrastructure, investor relations and communications. Michael Ballinger joins CIFG as managing director and head of corporate communications, and spent a 22-year career as MBIA, most recently as director of corporate communications. Thomas Collimore has been promoted to managing director and head of investor relations.

LOS ANGELES—The Geffen Playhouse has hired Allison Schwartz as director of communications, responsible for all press and media relations as well as internal and strategic communications for the theater. Schwartz joins from the Los Angeles office of Cohn & Wolfe. Earlier, she worked for the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association.
