Pluhowski to Head Communications at SunAmerica

Financial services firm SunAmerica has named John Pluhowski vice president of corporate communications.Sonia Fiorenza, who had been heading the PR operations on an interim basis, will report to Pluhowski.

LOS ANGELES, March 14—Financial services firm SunAmerica, a member of American International Group, has named John Pluhowski vice president of corporate communications. He takes the position vacated by Don Spetener, who left SunAmerica in May of 2000. Sonia Fiorenza, whohad been heading the PR operations on an interim basis, will report to Pluhowski.
 
Pluhowski most recently served as vice president of corporate communications at American General Corporation, where he was responsible for advertising, public and media relations, shareholder publications and employee communications. American General was acquired by AIG in August of 2000. He began his 23-year financial services industry career with The Acacia Group.
 
At SunAmerica, Pluhowski will be responsible for managing a wide range of communications activities including public and media relations, employee communications and community affairs. He will also be involved in furthering the effectiveness of the company’s brand advertising activities, including aligning AIG’s brand with the retirement savings brands of SunAmerica, VALIC, American General Annuity and SunAmerica Mutual Funds.
 
Pluhowski will report to Jay Wintrob, SunAmerica president and chief executive officer, who said, “He brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our organization as we further strengthen our position as an industry leader in the retirement savings industry following the successful combination of SunAmerica’s and American General’s retirement savings businesses. John will play a critical role in leveraging our company’s branding efforts with AIG’s, one of the most respected brands in the world, across the markets and communities we serve.”
