SAN FRANCISCO—Racepoint Group, the public relations and digital media relations firm owned by Larry Weber’s W2 communications company, has hired Donna Gibbs—a veteran of positions at Nike, Mattel, and The Weber Group—as executive vice president of its San Francisco office, where she will drive Racepoint’s continued growth in the Western region.

Immediately before joining Racepoint Group, Gibbs served as senior vice president for consumer marketing and ecommerce at PlanetOut, a leading media and entertainment company, where she was responsible for managing the global online subscription services and ecommerce division, where she planned and directed all marketing and product development activities to enhance premium subscriber acquisition and retention.  She also helped lead the company to a successful IPO in October, 2004.

Earlier Gibbs was executive vice president, Western region for The Weber Group (later Weber Shandwick), where she managed six offices and managed key enterprise accounts including Adobe Systems, Enron Broadband Services and Gateway Computer, as well as emerging companies in ecommerce and Internet infrastructure.

Gibbs has also served as vice president of corporate communications at Nike, where she was chief communications strategist and spokesperson on a wide range of issues, and was director of public relations at Mattel.
