Rachel Friend is to depart her role as head of consumer PR at Sainsbury's to become Weber Shandwick UK's consumer MD. Her shift comes after Cohn & Wolfe announced that current Weber Shandwick Europe consumer chief Scott Wilson will be replacing Fiona Noble as UK CEO.

Friend departs Sainsbury's two years after she joined the retailer from Hill & Knowlton. "Despite the recession we have recorded two successive years of record growth in our consumer business and great wins already in 2010 with EDF and the England 2018 World Cup bid," said Weber Shandwick UK and European CEO Colin Byrne. "Rachel brings a new edge and wealth of creative experience to this key practice area."

Wilson, meanwhile, will leave Weber Shandwick after seven years. At Cohn & Wolfe, he will head an agency that has shrunk considerably in recent months, following the loss of such key accounts as British Airways, Mundipharma, AstraZeneca and Diageo.

Cohn & Wolfe global CEO Donna Imperato pointed out that Noble's departure is the last phase of a restructuring process that has seen the hire of global healthcare head Mike Kan and consumer director Anthony Moore. The agency has also shed a number of staff.

"Fiona and I mutually agree that it is a good time for her to move on," said Imperato. "She is pursuing some prospects and needs time to focus on her next move."

Imperato added that with the new team in place Cohn & Wolfe would be a "formidable contender once again."
