NEW YORK—Ruder Finn has been selected by the University of Johannesburg as its public relations agency in the United States. The agency will build the reputation of the recently established university and convey its academic leadership, initiatives and contributions in the United States.
The formation of the University of Johannesburg via the merger of the academic university of Rand Africaans University and the vocational university Tecknikon Witwatersrand was part of the South African government’s mission to restructure higher education to help remedy the imbalances created in the former education system under the apartheid government, under which non-white students did not have the same privileges or amounts of government funding.
Ruder Finn’s media campaign will help the University of Johannesburg establish a presence in the U.S. where it is building partnerships with major U.S. universities. The communications plan will position the University of Johannesburg as a leading institution that offers both academic and technology degrees, and is one of the largest universities in South Africa, with nine faculties spread over seven different campuses.
