LONDON—Bell Pottinger Public Affairs has appointed Tim Collins as its new managing director. He replaces David Sowells, who is to take up a new role in Washington, D.C., working for Bell Pottinger USA.
Collins was a member of the Shadow Cabinet under three successive Conservative leaders, was a member of the Downing Street policy unit and special adviser in multiple departments, as well as being a former director of communications for the Tory Party.
Before entering the Commons at the time of the Labour landslide of 1997, Collins served as press secretary to Prime Minister John Major and as member of the Downing Street policy unit. Following his election as an MP, Collins went on to become shadow transport secretary under Iain Duncan Smith's leadership, and later shadow education secretary under Michael Howard.
He will work alongside BPPA chairman Peter Bingle.
