Gabriel Stricker has been named Twitter’s chief communications officer to reflect his expanded role within the social network that includes overseeing its media unit.

Stricker, previously VP of marketing and communications, took over Twitter’s media unit last month. Today the social network announced that Katie Stanton, previously vice president of international market development, would become VP of global media reporting into Stricker.

“This [change] recognizes that Gabriel has a lot more orgs reporting into him and it’s a reflection of the importance the company places on communications at large,” according to a source familiar with Twitter.  Under Stricker — who continues to report directly to CEO Dick Costolo — communications at Twitter includes PR, marketing, social media and the media unit. Many watchers of the social network are paying close attention to Twitter’s media unit since the company has seen some success on this front, especially with television partnerships.

Stricker’s move is the latest in a series of reshuffling at Twitter since its COO Ali Rowghani departed in June.
