NEW YORK—Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer has named Loretta Ucelli, most recently executive vice president for communications and external affairs at Columbia University and former White House communications director, as senior vice president of corporate communications, reporting to Jeff Kindler, vice chairman, general counsel and chief compliance officer.

Over the past 25 years, Ucelli has held a wide range of senior communications and strategic counsel positions in both the public and private sectors, with PR experience spanning the corporate and agency worlds.

Most recently at Columbia, she managed all internal and external communications and was responsible for all university outreach activities. She previously served the Clinton Administration as assistant to the President and director of communications for two years beginning in 1999, working closely with the chief of staff, the press Secretary and economic, domestic and foreign policy advisors on a broad range of issues.

She also served as associate administrator for communications, education and public affairs at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and was a senior consultant, specializing in crisis and issues management, at Edelman.

“Loretta Ucelli is a highly experienced communications professional who has a strong record of accomplishment in government, private sector and academia,” says Kindler. “Loretta’s knowledge of policy and strategic communications will help us in one of our most important priorities: ensuring that our key stakeholders understand the value of Pfizer and our medicines.”
