HONG KONG—Waggener Edstrom Worldwide has strengthened the leadership of its Chinese operations with the appointment of new leaders in China and Hong Kong.

Following a six-month sabbatical, Winnie Lai, formerly general manager of Waggener Edstrom Worldwide’s Hong Kong office, has relocated to Beijing to take on the new role of China general manager, overseeing the agency’s rapidly growing presence on the mainland. Rachel Catanach assumes leadership of Waggener Edstrom’s largest Asia office in Hong Kong.

Before joining Waggener Edstrom Worldwide, Lai spent three years with Computerworld Hong Kong, a leading newspaper for information technology decision-makers and managers in the territory. Previously, she worked in the technology practice at Hill & Knowlton Hong Kong, with clients such as Microsoft, Compaq and Intel.

Catanach previously worked for 15 years for New Zealand communications consultancy Sweeney Vesty, where she provided counsel to clients in the telecommunications, financial services, energy and government sectors.
