LOS ANGELES, May 16—Weber Shandwick Worldwide has established an international fellowship program through which students in the University of Southern California’s Strategic Public Relations graduate program will gain substantial international experience.

The initiative, known as the Weber Shandwick/USC International PR Fellows Program, is designed to give USC Annenberg public relations graduate students the kind of exposure and experience they will need to succeed in today’s global marketplace. Eight students will participate in the program’s inaugural session by working in Weber Shandwick’s 450-person United Kingdom and Ireland operations for six weeks this summer.

The firm is supporting the program through a grant that will support each student’s participation.  In addition, Weber Shandwick will provide the students with mentors, the opportunity to attend agency training sessions, and assignment to the practice groups that best match their professional interests.

“Our profession has changed profoundly in the last few years,” says Weber Shandwick chief executive Harris Diamond. “The clients we serve are demanding that our teams have the ability to see beyond their own national boundaries and think strategically on a global scale.  Our international partnership with USC’s Strategic PR program puts us in a position to help train the kind of top-flight professionals required to meet that need.”
