WeissComm Promotes Weiser to President; Adds People, Accounts

Healthcare public relations specialist WeissComm Partners has promoted Diane Weiser to president and chief operating officer. She will continue to report to WeissComm’s founder and CEO, Jim Weiss, who also will become chairman.

NEW YORK—Healthcare public relations specialist WeissComm Partners has promoted Diane Weiser to president and chief operating officer.  She will continue to report to WeissComm’s founder and CEO, Jim Weiss, who also will become chairman.

 

Since Weiser joined WeissComm in August 2004, the firm has quadrupled its revenues to $16.5 million and the number of employees to more than 75, expanded its New York operation, opened new offices in Chicago and Washington, D.C., and established an international presence and capability.      

 

Prior to joining WeissComm, Weiser was director of the healthcare practice in the San Francisco office of Ketchum, where she led the Genentech Avastin business as well as providing counsel to other Genentech product teams. Previously, she ran Ketchum’s New York healthcare practice, including the global Lipitor business.  She has developed and managed strategic, high-profile programs for leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies including Pfizer, Roche, Bayer Diagnostics, Allergan, Aventis, Celgene Corporation and Pharmacia.  

 

In addition, WeissComm has hired senior associates Stacie Byars, formerly director of corporate communications at Targeted Genetics; Tim Friend, formerly a medical journalist at USA Today; Shari Germershausen, who joins from Manning, Selvage and Lee; Julie Johnson, from Porter Novelli Life Sciences; Anna McCollister-Slipp, formerly of Manning Selvage and Lee; and Lori Rosen, also from Porter Novelli.

 

The firm has also added new clients including The Medicines Company, Ardea Biosciences, Cyclacel, Lev Pharmaceuticals, Neurobiological Technologies, PEAK Surgical, Prestwick Pharmaceuticals, VIA Pharmaceuticals, Spinemark, product communications for Anesiva’s analgesic drug Adlea, and global communications for a major new oral cancer drug.
