OutCast Founder Marooney Joins Facebook

Global, North America

Paul Holmes 28 Mar 2011

SAN FRANCISCO—Caryn Marooney, co-founder and chief executive of Next Fifteen’s OutCast Communications, is leaving the firm to take up a new position as director of technology communications at longtime client Facebook.

Marooney will be in charge of reaching out to the technical community, which according to a Facebook statement includes “product, platform, infrastructure, and technical recruiting communications–to reach developers, engineers, technology influencers and bloggers who write about our products and technology strategy.”

Marooney built OutCast alongside fellow co-founder Margit Wennmachers, who left the firm in June of last year to become a partner at venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz.

The firm restructured its management last year, naming a quartet of partners to lead major pieces of the business. One of those four, Alex Constantinople, has been promoted from chief operating officer to chief executive following Marooney’s departure. Constantinople joined the firm in September of last year, having previously led communications efforts for the business and editorial divisions of Condé Nast’s Wired magazine, its digital properties Wired.com, Reddit, and Ars Technica.

She will work with fellow-partners Amy Swanson, Reema Bahnasy and T.J. Snyder.
