AMSTERDAM—Andre Manning is departing his role as global comms chief at Philips to join Booking.com, the fast-growing internet travel company that is also based in Amsterdam.

Manning, a member of the Holmes Report's global Influence 100, ends a 19-year association with Philips, which included a variety of communications roles across the company's international operations.

He joins Booking.com in the newly-created role of global head of public relations and public affairs. "In this new role I will be able to learn and experience the Internet of Things and will help to further strengthen their reputation," Manning told the Holmes Report. "I have to admit, it is quite a change but one that I’m looking forward to."

Within the PR industry, Manning is probably best-known for developing a measurement system that is global both in terms of the media it covers and its geographic reach, going beyond traditional media analysis to focus on a variety of key performance indicators, including a net promoter score that helped Philips understand the balance between advocates and detractors in every major market around the world.

In the 90s, Manning was based in Prague, helping develop Philips' communications network in Central and Eastern Europe. In 2001, he moved back to Amsterdam work on corporate media relations team and financial and strategic communications. In 2005, he moved to New York, and was responsible for enhancing Philips’ reputation in the US before taking over as head of global communications for the company’s healthcare business.

He was appointed global head of external communications at Philips in the summer of 2009, moving back to the company’s headquarters in the Netherlands to lead a network of 50 communications professionals around the globe. He served as the communications advisor of the Philips board of management and also led the marketing function on an interim basis.

Manning also oversaw the OneVoice agency alliance that sees Philips' global PR remit handled by Omnicom agencies FleishmanHillard and Ketchum on a global basis.
