CHICAGO—Edelman has name Kevin Cook as the first chief operating officer of its Chicago office, and Una Pipic as the new chief of staff. Cook and Pipic will report to Jay Porter, president, Edelman Chicago. Cook joined Edelman in 1996 and has served as the managing director of Chicago’s corporate affairs practice since 2008, and Pipic joined Edelman in 2013 as senior vice president of the new business and marketing team.

NEW YORK—Intermarket Communications, which specializes in corporate and financial public relations, has appointed Neil Shapiro as chief operating officer. Shapiro joined Intermarket in 2000 and in 2012 was named managing partner, a title he will maintain. Before joining Intermarket, Shapiro was the senior producer of "Your World with Neil Cavuto," and held senior editorial positions at CNBC, CNN and Headline News. In addition, William (Bill) Ferri—an 18-year Intermarket veteran-has been named managing partner.

NEW YORK—Makovsky has appointed Ross Sutherland as executive vice president and digital branding practice leader. Sutherland’s career spans more than 20 years with Ogilvy & Mather working in six countries. As creative director, he managed campaigns for clients such as Rolex, Chubb and Fiat and had management responsibility of creative leadership for the entire South East region. Prior to his time with Ogilvy, Sutherland spent seven years as executive creative director with Young & Rubicam.

RALEIGH, NC—French/West/Vaughan has reorganized it sports and entertainment practice, naming Hayes Grooms IV as its new practice leader. Grooms, who is vice president and head of the agency’s New York office, replaces longtime agency executive Jay Wisse, who has been a loaned executive to agency client Elevation Burger since February, and officially joined that company May 1 as its first chief marketing officer. Grooms joined FWV last summer following FWV’s acquisition of his New York City-based G.A.M.E. management and marketing company.

NEW YORK—Gibbs & Soell has named Catherine Carlson Kadar as media relations director, while Jeri Moore and Emily David have joined as specialists in search engine optimization/search engine marketing and social media, respectively. Carlson Kadar brings more than a decade of agency media relations and account management experience, most recently at Waggener Edstrom, where she led programs for Microsoft, Verizon Business, BMC Software, and others. Moore joins the agency from TMP Worldwide, while David held marketing positions at Project Leadership Associates and Peak Performance Physical Therapy.

SAN FRANCISCO—Olson Engage has hired Charlie Witkowski as a vice president and creative director of its San Francisco office. Witkowski spent nearly nine years with Weber Shandwick, where he most recently led the agency's San Francisco digital and creative practices. His client experience includes work on brands and marketers such as Oreo, Kraft, Unilever, Motorola Mobility, VMware and the Milk Processor Education Program.

CLEVELAND—Dix & Eaton has promoted David Hertz to managing director. Hertz, a former journalist and Pulitzer Prize-winning editor at The Akron Beacon Journal, has also been named to the firm’s leadership committee. He has been a member of D&E’s media relations group since joining the firm in 2006. In addition, Stephanie Harig has been promoted to account executive and Sarah Hihn to director of human resources.

BOSTON—PAN Communications has added two new senior executives to its team. Dan Martin joins PAN as a vice president spanning the firm’s healthcare and technology clients. Prior to PAN, he worked at several technology and healthcare communications agencies in Boston including Golin Harris, Miller Consulting and Brodeur Partners. In addition, PAN has named Jennifer Bonney as its first creative director. She served most recently at Cone Communications.
