Despite operating in two of Asia’s more competitive markets, homegrown agency The PR People has quietly built a reputation as one of China’s more effective PR firms. The agency focuses on reputation management and possesses particularly strong local insight.
Recent years have seen solid growth, and a client list that include Hong Kong blue-chips China Light & Power and Sun Hung Kai Properties, and the likes of Evian and Leo Burnett. In 2009, revenues increased by an impressive 30 per cent, spurred by new business for Sinopec, Kohler, Global Group and the Hong Kong Institute of CPAs.
Of the new business, the undoubted highlight was the PR People’s assignment to handle crisis comms for Sinopec, after the Hong Kong government announced it would investigate whether the oil company’s LPG was causing buses and taxis to break down. PR People won the business following a pitch against several bigger, global, names – and delivered a focused performance which eventually saw Sinopec cleared of any wrongdoing.
The agency is led by founder and CEO Uhi Hui, who previously headed corporate at MS&L, and has also worked as a columnist at the Oriental Daily News.
“The best team of PR experts in the Greater China region I’ve seen and with outstanding media contacts,” said FPDSavills Greater China CEO Randall Hall. “Uhi and her team have a passion to understand clients’ needs; the incredible energy they project into the work always results in successful business deliverables.”—AS
