SAN JOSE — Ebay head of communications Dan Tarman parted ways with the company in December, with Nextdoor's Steve Wymer set to take over as CCO next month, a spokesperson for the company confirmed.

Wymer, who starts in February, will report directly to CEO Devin Wenig. The move comes after eBay faced a disappointing sales outlook and increasing competition from players like Amazon and Walmart. The spokesperson said no other immediate changes are expected to the communications team.

Tarman led the 125-person global comms team for eBay, StubHub and off-platform businesses since 2015. His remit spanned reputation strategy, content and message development, events, employee engagement, social media, financial communications, executive visibility and public affairs. He joined as the company prepared for its split with PayPal and for then-incoming CEO Wenig to take the helm. He was part of the billion-dollar company's executive management team, reporting directly to Wenig.

Meanwhile, Wymer has led communications and policy at Nextdoor.com, a neighborhood-based social media platform, since 2016. There, he built out the company’s brand messaging and external relations, as well as launching new markets in Europe and Australia. Prior to Nextdoor, he spent five years leading global communications and various public policy and marketing initiatives at TiVo, in addition to leading communications for three U.S. Senators.

The spokesperson declined to comment around the circumstances of Tarman's departure but confirmed that Edelman continues to be eBay's PR agency. Tarman's departure was first reported by eCommerce Bytes last month.
