NEW YORK — Hill+Knowlton Strategies has named John Derryberry, most recently with Western Union Digital, to the new role of US head of technology —  part of the agency’s larger push to strengthen its expertise in the sector.

Derryberry will lead the technology and telecoms practice across the country, working internally with staff as well as clients on strategy and initiatives.

He will also collaborate with tech practice leaders in regions around the world, as well as global practice lead Sara Gourlay.

Derryberry joins H+K after more than 20 years in tech communications. He was most recently the fintech and innovation communications leader at Western Union Digital, where he was instrumental in developing the company’s new narrative and driving more powerful storytelling.

Earlier in his career, Derryberry was Edelman Silicon Valley EVP, where he built the technology practice and led the Adobe account for more than 12 years.

Global president Richard Millar said, “The US continues to be a huge market for technology innovation, and John knows how to market our clients’ products. He has a 20-year track record of shaping perceptions of tech brands and leading execs, and his passion for storytelling is ideal for driving H+K’s growth strategy. It’s an exciting time for John to join our team.”
