CAMP HILL, PA—Veteran corporate communications executive Susan Henderson is joining drugstore chain Rite Aid as senior vice president and chief communications officer. Henderson will be responsible for all aspects of corporate communications, including media relations, financial communications, issues management, associate and supplier communications as well as the company's charitable giving initiatives.

Henderson will report to John Standley, Rite Aid president and chief executive officer, succeeding Karen Rugen, who retired from the company last month.

Most recently, Henderson was a consultant for Chicago-based Gagen MacDonald, a strategy execution and employee engagement firm. Prior to that position, she was vice president, communications for Harley-Davidson and before that worked at the Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company in Chicago, where she was vice president of corporate communications.

Prior positions include vice president, public relations at Kohl's Department Stores and director of marketing communications at Miller Brewing Company.

Rite Aid is one of the nation's leading drugstore chains with approximately 4,700 stores in 31 states and the District of Columbia with fiscal 2011 annual revenues of $25.2 billion.
