NEW YORK — Judith Harrison, Weber Shandwick’s head of diversity and inclusion, has been named president of the New York Women in Communications board of directors. Her goals for the upcoming year include increasing diversity and inclusion for the 2,000-plus member organization, working with the board of directors to reach all segments of the marketing communications business and providing programming for women at any stage of their career by offering professional education, engaging panel discussions, networking opportunities and mentoring. Harrison (pictured) is the first African-American president of the organization.
WASHINGTON — A survey of policy leaders in Washington by APCO Worldwide shows that technology and health care associations are best positioned to drive their agendas in the next Congress. APCO’s fifth annual TradeMarks Study, which measures the influence and efficacy of advocacy associations in Washington, found the divisiveness of the Trump administration and its complicated relationship with Congress is forcing associations to change the way they interact with Washington, said Bill Dalbec, managing director for APCO Insight, the firm’s research arm. APCO Worldwide. “The work done by health care and technology associations to broaden their relationships and adjust strategy and tactics in the current political landscape, puts them ahead of other sectors in how they’re perceived and positioned to succeed in the next Congress,” he said. The TradeMarks Study surveyed 340 policy leaders in Washington – congressional staff, executive branch officials and private sector executives – to measure perceived performance on 15 characteristics that make an association an effective public policy advocate in the eyes of its key stakeholders.
NEW YORK — Page has named Echo Research CEO Sandra Macleod the 2018 recipient of its distinguished service award. Page (formally the Arthur W. Page Society) gives the award to individuals who have strengthened the role of corporate communications and public relations in business and society through service to the profession, such as writing, research, teaching and service to others. Macleod will formally receive this honor at Page’s annual conference on September 24 in Washington.
