AMSTERDAM—Rozzyn Boy is departing Tata Communications after five years to become chief communications officer at Dutch-based telco VimpelCom, one of the world's largest mobile operators.

Boy, who was head of global corporate communications and brand at Tata's telecoms unit, also joins VimpelCom's management board, reporting to CEO Jo Lunder.

"We are transforming our business in order to maximize the digital opportunity across VimpelCom, and Rozzyn’s expertise and experience in global communications, digital and brand will be a great asset to the business," said Lunder.

Prior to joining Tata in 2010, Boy was UK tech head at H+K Strategies, which she joined after almost four years at Firefly. The South African native has also worked at Text 100 in the UK and South Africa, and was the communications lead for Motorola across Sub-Saharan Africa.

VimpelCom's communications team also includes former Vodafone executive Bobby Leach, who joined as group communications director in 2012. Leach previously reported to international affairs chief Rob Conway, who departed the company in 2013.

Headquartered in Amsterdam but founded in Russia, VimpelCom's telecoms operations span 14 countries and 223m mobile customers, across the Beeline, Kyivstar, Wind, Infostrada, Mobilink, banglalink, Telecel, and Djezzy brands.
