Tony Cudmore

Group Sustainability & Public Policy Officer
BHP Billiton
Australia

@tonycudmore

Tony Cudmore’s arrival at BHP Billiton five years ago was seen by many as a sign of the elevation of the corporate affairs function at the Australian mining giant, given that he was one of a handful of senior executives reporting to the CEO, with the rare title of president, group public affairs.

He has since been elevated to a new role as group sustainability and public policy officer, a recognition of the prime importance the company attaches to its environmental responsibilities (although in recent years, much of the company’s communications have focused on its economic contributions to its native Australia).

Cudmore brings considerable energy industry experience, having spent 13 years in various senior public affairs and brand marketing roles at ExxonMobil in Australia and the US. Before joining ExxonMobil, he was the assistant director of the Australian Institute of Petroleum and prior to that, the principal adviser to the then Premier of Victoria, Jeff Kennett MP.
